This youngster arrived at my surgery with the complaint of being ruthlessly teased by his peers and on the eve of going to high school he was eager to have something done that would give him a chance for a normal hit school experience.
Examination revealed a condition called amelogenesis imperfect. This is a condition that causes the malformation of teeth and is often accompanied by the patient having several missing teeth.
Being only 13 years old and with numerous teeth absent the restorative options were limited and was always going to be a compromised outcome, but we knew that we could not leave him as he was. So with the patient and parent’s consent, we restored his teeth in the least invasive way possible. He knows that after he has finished growing another treatment plan will need to be outworked but at least for high school he will have every reason to be confident.
